What to do, what to do…
I’m two years into a degree in Computer Engineering, but as time goes by I enjoy it less and less. I’ve always been a bit of geek, always good with electronics and logical problem solving so it was natural for me to go into it. Right now though, I’m having trouble imagining a fulfilling life spent developing applications and toolsets. I’m thinking maybe I should go into a degree like English or Journalism. I can see myself as a writer, maybe for Time, Esquire or GQ. But if I switched I would be starting again from the beginning and I’ve struggled enough to pay for the amount of college I’ve already done.
I’m going to pick my guitar up in a couple of days, so I guess I’ll also give being a rock star another shot.

Based on my not so vast experience, I’d say it’s worth a small amount of student loan debt to be REALLY happy with your decision. I, like a lot of frum girls, rushed through college because I wanted to just finish, stop paying tuition, and move on with my life. I am happy with my career choice (by chance) but I still wish I’d majored in English and enjoyed my classes a lot more instead of pushing through as fast as I could.

Don’t take this the wrong way, but I had no idea you needed a degree to be a librarian.

It’s ok, that is probably the #1 reaction I get. Either that or lame Dewey Decimal jokes. But yes, you need a Masters and in some cases, more than one Masters.

There is a lot of competition for Time, Esquire, and GQ. Most of the writing majors I knew are writing for small town newspapers or working as tech writers in the computer field. What about double majoring?
I’m a coder and I can tell you that it’s really not that much like school.
But Frum Librarian is right, you need to be happy.
